Jonathan Scotland, Ph.D.

Jonathan is an Historian and Editor at the Dictionary of Canadian Biography (DCB), at the University of Toronto. He is also Historian for Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame and works as an RCAF Associate Air Force Historian, and with the Vintage Aviation Team, an Ontario based group specializing in pre-1939 Canadian aviation history.

From 2004 to 2007, Jonathan served as a researcher, policy analyst, and member of the executive of the G8 Research Group at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the DCB in 2015, he worked as a researcher with the Network in Canadian History & Environment at Western University.

Jonathan has edited major textbooks in Canadian history, as well as recent books on the Canadian Expeditionary Force and Canada’s Prime Ministers.

His work as a historian straddles academia and public history. He speaks widely as a guest lecturer at schools, museums, and universities. In 2013 Jonathan was invited to co-curate an exhibition at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto, and in 2015 he delivered the Toronto History Lecture on Canada’s Great War veterans - the subject of much of his ongoing research.
