Benoit Hardy-Chartrand

Benoit Hardy-Chartrand is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs at Temple University Japan, in Tokyo, where he teaches various courses on international security and politics. He is also an Associate Researcher at the Raoul-Dandurand Chair of Strategic and Diplomatic Studies in Montreal.
From 2014 to 2017, Benoit was a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Canada’s premier international affairs think tank, where he managed various bilateral and multilateral policy conferences. He was also a Lecturer at the University of Montreal from 2015 to 2017.
Benoit’s research interests and expertise include East Asian geopolitics and regional security issues. His work has been featured in numerous publications, and he has appeared more than 400 times in the media to provide analysis on East Asian affairs for outlets such as the BBC, CNN, Deutsche Welle, CBC, South China Morning Post, Japan Times and ABC News. On numerous occasions, he has advised Canadian policymakers and organizations, as well as foreign diplomats on geopolitical, political, security and economic issues related to the Indo-Pacific.
